Google's Local Service Ads are Changing the Local Search Landscape
Google has continued to roll out their new advertising program for local businesses. This program is called Google's Local Service Ads. More information is available below on what they are, the value, and what it could mean to smaller businesses and the local search engine results pages.
What are LSA ads?
These ads appear on Google's search network and are be placed above traditional search network ads. See screenshot below. (search done near Detroit where LSA ads are available)

These ads are currently not available in all locations and all industries. They are available currently for the following business categories.

Business law services
Carpenter services
Carpet cleaning services
Cleaning services
Contract law services
Countertop services
Criminal law services
Disability law services
DUI law services
Electricians (available in Canada)
Estate lawyer services

Instead of paying per click you pay per lead. Which is really really exciting!
-I did run test searches for carpet cleaning. I noticed that all the Google Guaranteed (LSA) listings were large franchise carpet cleaners and not one location smaller operations.
I feel that this could hurt smaller locations that are unaware of this program or they may have the logistical / staff issues that makes getting this stuff done virtually impossible. Google does require businesses to verify licences and pass a background check to become eligible.
Given the prominence and attractiveness of the listing and once consumers catch on to what Google Guaranteed actually means this will mandate that certain small business depending on the industry adopt these changes.
